From Our House To Yours - Happy New Year

In 2012 I would Challenge each and everyone to reach out and touch someone be it as close as a neighbour going through a hard time to some one half way around the world. It does not matter if you donate to a local food bank, or travel halfway around the world to offer aid or assistance. If we all did Just One Thing To Make Someones New Year A Little Better A Little Brighter the world would be better for it and so would we. In today's global world with its instant communication of disaster and distress how can we not reach out.

Make This A Happy New Year For Someone Else.

December The Season Of Celebrations & Sharing - In The Spirit Of Christmas

What fun to be part of bringing joy at Christmas.

3 days before Christmas I received an email through Active Rain, with a 'strange question', the sender had a large turkey she would like to give to a family in need, would I know someone who could use it? I replied immediately "YES" and made arrangements to pick it up the next day. I do not know this woman, she lives about 40 minutes away, but she knew my name through real estate advertising, signs, and she obviously reads my Active Rain blog.

I walked in the front door thinking I would just pick up the turkey and be on my way. On the kitchen table was a box, she started pulling out pasta sauce, boxes of pasta, microwave popcorn packages, canned soup, stuffing mixes, canned peaches, juice, plus several other goodies. I exclaimed that the family would be thrilled to have so much, her husband entered with the turkey in a bag, it must be about 25 lbs, it was huge!

Again, I said how thankful the family would be, she turned and said, oh, that's not all! She reached for a home made apple pie, she had just finished baking, plus a jar of homemade pasta sauce, I thanked her again. She offered a pumpkin pie too. I told her a bit about the family I was taking this to, how mom had needed surgery a few weeks ago, and was back in hospital with very serious complications, and the dad had been laid off a few weeks ago. With 5 little ones it was looking like a very bleak Christmas. She asked about toys, there was a new teddy bear they could add, but we decided one new bear would not divide well between 5 kids.

As we packed the generous gift in my car, the husband said they had a freezer full of food, that was the norm for them, he could not imagine having a family and no money to buy food, the worries that would bring ..... could I think of anything else they could do for this young family.

Driving back to town I called the family, to see if dad was going to be home. 'Someone asked me to find a family who needed help this Christmas, and I thought of you with mommy in the hospital. I just picked up a turkey and a few other things, could I drop them off?' "Awesome" was his immediate answer.

I kept reaching into the car adding to the pile in his arms, the smile on his face was huge, "this is great, home made pie too, awesome! Thank you!!!"

I loved being one of Santa's elves, what a pleasure to be part of making someone's Christmas a little bit easier. We know that turkey will be enjoyed and appreciated.

WE CAN MAKE DIFFERENCE

It is through the efforts of like minded people that we can improve the world around us; one person, one community, one country at a time. It is the cumulative effect of those who in their own way offer a hand up not a hand out that is and will continue to make an exponential difference in the world. It matters not if a person's contribution is of a monetary nature or a commitment of time or energy it all makes the difference.

Magical Winter Wonderland Stocks The Shelves Of The Georgina Community Food Bank

Local Resident Rob Sefton has created a Christmas Wonderland, a lighting extravaganza that draws nightly crowds, some TV fame and puts food on the shelves of the local Georgina Community Food Pantry.

Sefton has created a 30 minute synchronized musical light show consisting of 30,000 lights that dance to the music in ever changing colours. Santa's sleigh and reindeer appear to fly over his home while the trees in front light up in time with the music. You can tune your car radios to 96.9 FM to listen to the lights as you watch this magical display.

As of Thursday evening 650 lbs of food had been donated for the Georgina Community Food Pantry.

Track Santa - There's An App For That

The Countdown to Christmas Eve is on at www.noradsanta.org. On Christmas eve you can track Santa live as he makes his journey around the world. This year you can track Santa with the official Track Santa App.

Kids Countdown Village

While waiting for Santa to start his journey there are a great selection of kids games in the Kids Countdown Village section of the NORAD site where a new holiday game is has been added every day since December 1st and will continue to be added every day till December 24th

2011-12 Mid Month - Buyers Activity Report

December has seen web site visitor activity slow down from November of 2011, however it is up from December of 2010. This increase is a good indicator of where the market may be headed in the early months of 2012 compared to 2011.

Both the median price and average price of homes viewed this month are up from November. The Average list price of homes viewed rose from $513,813 to $589,680 reflecting the number of very high end properties viewed, 6.5% of all homes viewed were over $1,000,000. It is also affected by the number of lower end properties not viewed 15.5% under $300,000 with only 1 under $200,000

LOCAL UXBRIDGE REAL ESTATE MARKET UPDATES

There are currently 116 properties (down 2 from the beginning of the month) for sale in Uxbridge and it's Hamlets of Coppins Corners, Goodwood, Leaskdale, Sandford, Udora, and Zephyr, ranging in price from $169,900 to $4,490,000.

November saw 32 new listings in Uxbridge with 24 sales. The average sale price was $438,279 down slightly from the average of $444,215 in November of last year.

However the overall year to date average for Uxbridge is up slightly over 8% from this time last year.

The Living Nativity

Experience the Joy of that First Christmas

Please  join me as we witness the wonder of that very first Christmas.

Once again this year the story of the simple birth of Christ will come alive in Uxbridge with a cast of over 125. This live production portrays the events leading up to the moment when the Baby Jesus was born in the humble stable, then follows the travels of the shepherds and the wisemen's entourage as they come to pay homage to the newborn King.

The village of Bethlehem is re-created, to form the backdrop for an exciting and colourful depiction of the very first Christmas. Everyone enjoys the pageantry of the Roman Soldiers on horseback, the live animals, the colourful costumes and the majestic Christmas music and narration. Your crèche will take on a whole new meaning as you watch the story unfold before your very eyes.

Sitting on the bleachers surrounding the park, you feel as though you are actually overlooking the town of Bethlehem. Peeking in, You follow Joseph leading the donkey into the village carrying Mary on its back. The horses come galloping in as the soldiers round up the townspeople to pay their taxes ... the children escape, playing tag as they run around the bonfires.

As quiet descends on the set you may be able to hear the lambs baa, as the first cry of baby Jesus breaks the spell. The townspeople gather round to see this wondrous thing that has come to pass ......

About The Living Nativity,

The live dramatic presentation of the Christmas story in Uxbridge, Ontario.

The LIVING NATIVITY is sponsored by the Uxbridge Baptist church, as a gift to the community. It all began in 1974 with annual productions on the main street of Uxbridge for several years. After a number of years off the Living Nativity returned in 1985, and has been produced alternate years by Co-producers, Joan Wideman, and Brian Evans, working with a strong team of over 25 preparation and behind the scene volunteers. It was last produced in 2009 and drew crowds of over 4000 to Centennial Park.

Uxbridge Optimists Light Up Elgin Park. 


Uxbridge and area residents will be able to enjoy the Uxbridge Optimists 2011 Christmas Fantasy Of Lights beginning tomorrow evening December 16, 2011. Over the past few years Elgin Park has come alive with the Fantasy of Lights for Christmas thanks to this organization that does great work with our local youth.

Starting in 2008 The Uxbridge Optimists turned Elgin Park into a Fantasy of Lights with the help of members of the local business community and local groups and organizations.

Each group is given a 25 foot by 25 foot area to erect their display. Starting in early December the groups begin to set up their displays in order to be ready for the official opening in mid December. The park is lite up every night from mid December to Christmas.

Donations from visitors to the park during the event support the Optimists work with local youth

The Average Selling Price for all home types in Uxbridge ..... up almost 8.3% to $454,557 year to date over 2010's average sellein price of $419,736 for the same time frame last year

Here is a sampling of what is available around the average price in Uxbridge.

Over all sales numbers..... down almost 1% over 2010 to date with 323 reported transactions through the Toronto MLS in 2011 with 326 for the same time frame last year.

While enjoying solid gains in value Uxbridge properties sell at a slower pace than Toronto. On average it takes up to 3 times longer to sell a home in Uxbridge than it does in many areas of Toronto.

Currently there are 120 properties for sale ranging from $169,000 to $4,490,000.

With an average number of sales per month of 29.36 to date this year
The current 120 properties for sale represent a four month supply of listings.

Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Foundation's Festival Of Lights

On Wednesday December 7th, 2011 the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Foundation will be presenting their Christmas Festival Of Lights. Sponsored by our local Canadian Tire Store the ceremonies begin at 6:30pm in front of the Hospital at 4Campbell Drive, Uxbridge. You will enjoy complimentary cookies and hot chocolate and sample some delicious hot apple cider compliments of Siloam Orchards. Uxbridge's own champion Town Crier will be on hand along with the Uxbridge Pipes and Drums and of course Santa is expected to be there too.

Come out and enjoy the Festive Fireworks Display and support this wonderful organization, its volunteers and the work they do.

While donations to the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Foundation is greatly appreciated parking and admission are free.

 About The Monday Morning Singers

Since its formation in 2001, the group has grown in both numbers and talent.  The choir’s mandate is to provide an opportunity for women who love to sing and each season the repertoire continues to challenge and entertain both the choir and its audiences.

The choir performs in Uxbridge for the Christmas season and again in the spring. In addition, MMS hosted a French women’s choir, traveled to France to perform, and continues to perform in many local communities, including Lemonville, Goodwood, Ajax, and most recently at Butternut Manor in Uxbridge.

All women who like to sing are welcome to attend!
